Due to heredity or sun-exposure, the skin can develop three common types of skin cancers---basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma. The growths can be easily recognized during a total body skin examination which often leads to early treatment and cure. Spots and growths that do not heal or enlarge rapidly deserve your immediate attention. Sun-damage as a child seems to set the stage for these cancers in general, however your skin type might be more or less susceptible to sun-damage. Sun-avoidance is key to prevention!
