Tumescent Liposculpture

Tumescent liposculpture was developed by dermatologists as a safe and effective surgical method to remove unwanted fat without sedation by using small cannulas (suction tubes). Treatment is provided by placing large amounts of local anesthesia in the fatty area. By using small suction cannula the patient is less likely to experience discomfort during the procedure, recovery occurs faster, there is less need for post-operative pain management, less bruising and minimal blood loss. This is performed as an outpatient treatment with less down time than the general anesthesia technique. Typically, a patient will be able to resume most activities that do not require physical exertion within three days. Optimal improvement is seen several months following the procedure and at least a 50-60% overall improvement is expected over baseline.

Liposculpture is used to remove and contour areas of fat that have not responded to dieting and exercise. It is not a treatment for obesity. Liposculpture can be used almost anywhere on the body including the waist, hips, thighs, calves, ankles, breast, neck, knees, and back. Treatment can be repeated if needed a few weeks after the initial treatment removing any remaining uneven contours.
